Using Pest Control As Preventative Maintenance

A few years ago, I experienced a personal breakthrough as a homeowner. I realized that I waited to call pest control until my bug problem had grown out of control. Instead of simply controlling pests, we would have to work through from square one each and every time we wanted to resolve the problem. However, my pest control guy gave me some advice that has stuck with me since that day. He explained that we should consider using pest control as preventative maintenance. Since then, I have pest control spray regularly every 3-6 months, whether there are bugs in my house or not. Tips like these can be found in the articles on my website.

Dealing With Termites

The problem with termites is that they are completely silent and travel underground most of the time, so you usually do not realize that you have a problem until it is much to late. A termite colony might make their way into the woody parts of the home such as the framing. This is obviously bad because it can structurally make your house very weak. So, it is important that you take some action as soon as possible. This article will cover a few of the things that you can do to fend off those wood-eating pests.

Simply Remove The Wood

One of the easiest and smartest things that you can do is remove the wood around your home. There are many people that use a wood mulch for their flower beds on the side of their home. This is not a good idea when it comes to termites. Termites are attracted to this and come to it like a magnet. There are different mulches that you can use to keep your plants wet.

You also want to avoid planting any woody bushes. If you have a lot of wood next to your house, simply remove it to stop the termites from being attracted to your home.

Seal The Foundation

Termites are tunneling pests, so you will not see them flying around very often. This means that they are going to enter your home through the ground. In order to fend off this aspect of a termite colony you need to pest proof your home, specifically the basement or the crawl space. Dig around your home to expose the foundation and then you will want to wash the foundation really well. Apply a polymer to the outside and the inside of the foundation. This will seal the foundation from burrowing pests.
