Using Pest Control As Preventative Maintenance

A few years ago, I experienced a personal breakthrough as a homeowner. I realized that I waited to call pest control until my bug problem had grown out of control. Instead of simply controlling pests, we would have to work through from square one each and every time we wanted to resolve the problem. However, my pest control guy gave me some advice that has stuck with me since that day. He explained that we should consider using pest control as preventative maintenance. Since then, I have pest control spray regularly every 3-6 months, whether there are bugs in my house or not. Tips like these can be found in the articles on my website.

How to Get Rid of Pigeons on Your Property

Pigeons can become pests if they begin to overrun your property. You may be wondering how you can get rid of them as humanely as possible. Fortunately, there are a many ways that you can get rid of pigeons without causing them harm. Here are some ideas you may want to try.

Try Bird Netting

Bird netting is a great way to get rid of pigeons fast. You can block off large spaces such as gardens, roofs ad overhangs with bird netting. The best type of bird netting is one that is high density in nature and is made of rigid polyurethane. The net should consist of squares that are at least three quarters of an inch in length.

Use Pigeon Birth Control

You can use products that contain chemicals that prevent pigeons from producing offspring. These products come in food form which you feed to the unsuspecting pigeons. Once you start feeding them with the food that is laced with the birth control, they will simply stop reproducing. However, this solution will take some time to have the desired effect. Usually it will take six or eight months of consistent feeding before you start seeing a reduction in the pigeon population.

Pigeon Spikes

The use of the word spikes may sound brutal and harmful to the pigeons. However, spikes rarely do any real physical damage to the pigeon population and it does help to deter them from flying onto your property. However, you have to ensure that you clean pigeon spikes regularly and remove any debris you find, since twigs and tree branches that get in between the spikes can provide pigeons with a good amount of protection from the spikes and defeat the purpose.

Remove Pigeon Attractions

If you truly want to rid your property of pigeons then you should do a thorough cleaning of your property as you may be inadvertently contributing to the infestation. Remove grains and seeds from your property. If you feed animals outside clean up the leftovers or use drop feeders that require animals such as livestock to release food by using a trigger. Store your garbage in cans and bags that make it difficult for pigeons to gain access.

Also, do not leave any water standing on your property. Pigeons are very determined birds when it comes to finding food and water, if they cannot find anything to feast on in your yard they will stop coming.
