Using Pest Control As Preventative Maintenance

A few years ago, I experienced a personal breakthrough as a homeowner. I realized that I waited to call pest control until my bug problem had grown out of control. Instead of simply controlling pests, we would have to work through from square one each and every time we wanted to resolve the problem. However, my pest control guy gave me some advice that has stuck with me since that day. He explained that we should consider using pest control as preventative maintenance. Since then, I have pest control spray regularly every 3-6 months, whether there are bugs in my house or not. Tips like these can be found in the articles on my website.

Rats In Your Home? What You Can Do

Rats are a pest that can multiply quickly and can leave behind a big mess. It can also be dangerous to your health with all of the feces they leave behind. These pests are usually seen in larger cities, but they can be found in other areas as well. Rats are one of the larger rodents in this species. These pests can be difficult to get rid of. If you do have rats, read on for tips on how to get rid of them.

Make Repairs To Your Home

Make the necessary repairs to your home in order to prevent these pests from coming in in the first place. If you have rats in your home, they got in somehow, usually via a hole or a crack somewhere, and you need to make the necessary repairs to prevent them from returning. If you live in an apartment, you need to let your building manager know that you have found rats and that you need repairs to help get rid of them.

Set Traps

Set necessary traps around your home to trap these pests and get rid of them. Rat traps are necessary to trap and exterminate them. Rats are larger pests, so a small mouse trap is not going to cut it. They are too large for these traps, and you need to use a larger trap. Set the traps and then reset them over and over again until you no longer have these pests in your home. You can find rat traps at any hardware store. Set the traps according to the manufacturer's instructions, and use bait to lure the rats to the traps. You can use whatever they have been feeding off of as bait for the traps.

Clean Everything

Keep everything in your home clean and tidy to help prevent these pests from wanting to be in your home. Clean your home and remove grease and oil buildup on your counters, stove, and other surfaces in your kitchen. Keep your kitchen sink clean, and remove and clean the drain stop, as this can be a lure for rats. Put all food in your pantry into air-tight containers to prevent feeding rats. Also, be sure to keep your floors clean and remove bits of food or crumbs that may be lying about.
